Ruby Wilson, 2026 Science EDU Portfolio

Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my Professional Knowledge and Skills ePortfolio. Here, I share how I have grown as a science educator during my graduate studies at Manhattanville University. My experiences in coursework, professional development, classroom teaching, and involvement in the science education community have helped me build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to offer fair, engaging, and challenging science lessons for every student. This portfolio shows my dedication to ongoing professional growth and lifelong learning.

About me

My name is Ruby Wilson, and I am finishing my master’s at Manhattanville in December 2026. I am an educator, a biologist, and a steward. I am currently a high school biology teacher at Ramapo High School in Spring Valley, New York.

My Science Teaching Philosophy:

The main thing that works for me as a student is consistent teaching, and I know when to expect it. I will always respect my students, not just as subjects but also as people. Most of the time, if I felt I was not getting respect from a teacher, I would not pay attention in that class to the best of my abilities. I always appreciated getting extra help during office hours and would always take teachers up on it. I want to be a flexible and knowledgeable teacher who can show my students they will be the next generation to run the world, so they need to own it and thrive.

My Commitment to Equitable Science Education

Sections to be covered:

Throughout my teaching, I have come to understand that equity is not about providing every student with the same experience, but rather providing each student with the supports and opportunities they need to succeed. My commitment to equitable science education is evident in my efforts to differentiate instruction, design engaging inquiry experiences, and foster an inclusive environment where all students can participate. As I continue to grow professionally, I will seek opportunities to expand my knowledge of culturally responsive teaching, multilingual learner supports, and inclusive science practices to ensure that every student has meaningful access to high-quality science education.
