Artifcat: NSTA Webinar
I joined an NSTA webinar titled “Beyond Word Walls: A Tool for Intentional Language Development in Science” on October 15, 2026. During this webinar, I learned how to support multilingual learners from elementary school to high school. The speakers introduced the use of language maps to guide students into deeper understandings of content knowledge through language. I learned that by following language maps aligned with state standards, you can introduce new terms and vocabulary seamlessly. In practice, I plan to sit down and identify ways to support students’ language retention while still adhering to New York’s Science Standards.

Professional Development Communities
What communities did I look into?
Communities I looked into to further my professional career were the Science Teachers Association of New York (STANYS), the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT). All of the communities were well known and highly regarded, guaranteeing me a leg up in the world of science teachers.
Which ones did I not chose and why?
STANYS is a highly accredited and widely known association in New York State. As a first-year teacher, I was drawn to their willingness to support and further new teachers. Ultimately, I do not know if I will be staying to teach in New York, so this organization was not one I could see myself being in long-term, and I could not justify the price.
NABT is a professional journal that releases an educational journal yearly. They also publish several articles yearly, including many free resources, which ultimately made my decision easy. NABT has the most free materials available without requiring membership. I did not want to waste money on materials I can get for free.
Why National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)?
NSTA captured my attention fast after several professors and one colleague actually recommended I join it. Then I went on their website
How does NSTA align with my professional goals?
This exquisite compilation showcases a diverse array of photographs that capture the essence of different eras and cultures, reflecting the unique styles and perspectives of each artist.
